This week, the children in our preschool and nursery in Streatham Common have been thinking all about the people we love. We’ve been celebrating Father’s Day to let all of our Daddies know how much we love them and appreciate everything that they do for us.

Some of our children have made our Daddies a card and rock to show how much we love them. We used different materials to create our masterpieces. We also talked about our Daddy’s and what they mean to us. It was a fantastic activity that links to experiments with a range of media tools, materials, sounds, and whole-body movements through multi-sensory exploration.

The children also painted portraits of their hero dads using natural resources. This activity sparked creativity and provided them with an opportunity to discuss what makes their dads special. The children enjoyed using various materials to depict different aspects of their fathers, with some even using their little fingers to complete the portraits.

In Preschool, our children drew pictures of what their daddies look like. They were each given a piece of paper that says “What my daddy looks like” and some pens. The children each pick a pen and start to draw what their daddies look like and talk to each other about what they are drawing. The children also talk to their teachers about their daddies.

This leans into our theme about understanding the world and difference in people, such as colours of hair, eyes and skin tone. They are also taking part in creative arts and design, using the pens to colour in, as well as communication and language, talking to one another about their daddies and what they do for work, this is also personal, social and emotional development as they develop friendships and physical development working on their pincer grip and fine motor skills.
